Pampers vs Huggies vs Kirkland: Differences & Similarities

1. Size Charts

Pampers clearly leads this area when it comes to enlarged size. Pampers goes up to size 7, whereas Huggies only goes up to size 6. While Kirkland only has size 1 to 6, Kirkland diapers do not come in a Newborn size.

2. Materials

Huggies and Pampers use similar materials. If you’re concerned about what is added into your baby’s diaper, both brands are free of parabens, latex and elemental chlorine.

a. Huggies Diapers Ingredients – Disposable Diapers

– Top Sheet (Inner Lining): Polypropylene and polyethylene
– Absorbent Padding: Superabsorbent (sodium polyacrylate), wood fluff pulp, polypropylene, polyester, and polyethylene
– Backsheet (Outer Lining) : Polypropylene and polyethylene printed with colorants
– Waistband, Inner Flap, Leg Elastics: Polyurethane, polypropylene, and polyethylene
– Fastening System: Polypropylene, synthetic rubber elastic
– Dyes : Printed with colorants. Colorants can be either dyes or pigments, which may contain heavy metals, irritate baby’s skin and cause diaper rash.
– Chlorines : Uses elemental chlorine-free bleaching (ECF)
– Adhesives
– Fragrance and lotion free

b. Pampers Diapers Ingredients – Disposable Diapers

– Top Sheet (Inner Lining) : Made of polypropylene and has a thin layer of lotion.
– Absorbent Core: Non woven made of polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PET) fibers, wood pulp, super-absorbent gel in the core
– Backsheet (Outer lining) : Made of a polyethylene film
– Chlorines : Uses an elemental chlorine-free process to purify the fibers
– Colors: Uses pigments for colors which they claim are non allergenic and skin safe
– Fragrance: Used at very low levels in each diaper

c. Kirkland Diapers Material

Both Kirkland diapers and Huggies diapers are made by Kimberly-Clark. Although there are some similarities between the diapers, they are not the same.

We tried to dig information on the internet but still couldn’t find their complete diapers’ ingredients. So, we tried to compare Kirkland diapers with Huggies diapers.

Kirkland diapers simply state that they are hypoallergenic and do not include natural rubber latex on their packaging.

Huggies, on the other hand, claim that they are not made with elemental chlorine bleaching and do not include latex or perfumes. Compared with Kirkland, Huggies is the winner of this round. They have more transparent ingredient labeling that parents can understand, and their diapers include fewer potentially dangerous or irritating substances.

3. Pricing

Pampers and Huggies are nearly identical in price. On Amazon, Pampers diapers cost between $0.25 and $0.35 per diaper, while Huggies diapers cost between $0.20 and $0.30 per diaper. Go for the Huggies if you want to save a few cents.

When comparing Huggies to Kirkland diapers, the price difference was only $1 more for an entire box of Huggies. However, some parents suggest that it is still worth to spend few dollars for Pampers / Huggies to prevent blowouts.

4. Availability

Huggies: Costco, Amazon, Target, Walmart, Rite Aid, CVS, Walgreens, Shoppers Drug Mart.

Pampers: Amazon, Target, Walmart, Buy Buy Baby, Bed Bath & Beyond, Rite Aid, CVS, Walgreens, Shoppers Drug Mart

Huggies Little Movers vs Huggies Little Movers Plus

No, they are not. Both (Amazon and Costco) are really good diapers, but the Costco ones are softer, bigger, and plushier. The Costco box and the actual diapers say “Plus”. The “Plus” ones are sold exclusively at Costco. I used to buy these ones from Amazon until I tried the Costco ones. Now I only buy from Costco, even if they are pricier. Somebody mentioned that their baby leaked at night with these, I never used these for night time. Instead I use the Huggies OverNites, which I purchase from Amazon) and there are no leaking problems.

b. Overnight Diapers : Huggies Overnight vs Pampers Swaddler Overnight

Huggies OvernightPampers Swaddler Overnight

Huggies Overnites is more reliable compared to Pampers Overnights in terms of leak prevention during overnight use. Huggies Overnites features a high waist that help prevent leaks. Huggies Overnites also uses softer materials compared to Pampers Overnights.

Some users claim that Pampers Overnights fills up quickly and would get so packed and heavy that the diaper would curl, leaving the baby wet and uncomfortable.

i. Huggies Overnites Reviews

Source
Huggies Overnites have saved me from having to wash my baby’s sheets every day. I started using them with my second child and loved them! When my third child came along we found out quickly it would be a “must have” for him as well.
If you have issues with your little ones peeing through their diapers at night, look no further!! This is the best thing out there! You will not regret it.
I buy the overnites for night time and the snug and dry for day time and nap time.

Source
7 month old kept waking up at 4/5/6 AM and sometimes didn’t really seem that hungry. So I decided to give these a try. She has been sleeping now consistently until 7/7:30AM. Pretty much a 10/11 hour run. Been such a lifesaver! I think she was just uncomfortable with the normal diapers. I only use these for night and there’s been NO leaks or issues whatsoever! When I traveled recently with her, I made SURE to grab one for each night AND the flight so she was comfortable.

Source
We have tried some other overnight options with disappointment; finally gave these a try and literally switched all of his diapers to Huggies. We have only had one leak in several months and that was because of not great placement. These diapers are sometimes so filled when we wake up yet no leakage. My son never seems uncomfortable in them.

ii. Pampers Swaddlers Overnight Reviews

Source
I almost didn’t buy these based on reviews saying they are the same as regular pampers BUT as a scientist I remembered that the thing that creates the absorbency is in between the cloth layers. It sucks up the liquid which is why a wet diaper bulges and is so heavy. So I decided to try these and they are AMAZING!
We use pampers swaddles during the day and he was peeing through them (well more they reached full capacity so his pee would sneak out the top since he sleeps on his stomach now)…he has not had a single leak with these! I know we are only 4 days in but that tells me they are without a doubt more absorbent than the regular ones. So Pampers is not trying to be sneaky and rebrand its normal diapers as overnight. I’m so glad I bought these and I highly recommend!!

Source
Before I purchased these I saw that in the reviews people mentioned that they were the exact same diaper as the normal swaddlers. That worried me until I remembered that it’s not the outside, it’s the INSIDE. The inside has extra absorbency and it does it so well! We have used these at night for my son for a week now and haven’t had any issues! With the regular swaddlers he would fill his diaper so full that it wouldn’t leak but would actually just soak through the diaper onto his clothes and bed. From night one these haven’t done this at all! He can be in it for 12 hrs at night, pees A TON, and his clothes are perfectly dry in the morning! Very happy with them!

v. Reviews on Amazon

Huggies Little Movers

Source
This brand of diapers have been reliable for all of our 3 kids. 5 years of experience with these.
Definitely the best for overnight. They hold very well and DO NOT LEAK!
We tried different brands from cheaper prices to similar priced ones. It is worth paying this price. When trying cheaper brands and pee leaked out at night it became such an inconvenience to wash covers and blankets. These are not perfumed, like other diapers priced similarly.
The only reasons these will leak is if wrong size is on child, if it’s small on child. Get the right size. Get these

Source
We have tried a lot of brands of diapers and my daughter is allergic to most all of them. We had Huggies snug and dry but they kept giving her spots on her booty and were not keeping snug while walking or playing and would turn sideways. We switched to these and they have the tab to keep them in place so 2 tabs to help keep them in place and with a toddler in these, these are amazing! And we love them because they keep in all the moister from overnight through the morning until she gets up and they don’t leak! I highly recommend for any toddlers that are busy body like mine!

Source
Love these. We were using the Huggies dry & fit but the started leaking poop around the leg area now that he is older (9 months). I have been extremely happy with the little movers. They are softer, have a better cut for a better fit and most importantly No leaks.

Pampers Cruisers

Source
I will seriously never buy any other diaper. I love pampers because they never leak and my boy is always comfy in them. They don’t sell size 7 in most stores so I’m now buying them online. They are one of the only diapers that fit my son, he’s a big boy!

Source
I bought 2 boxes for my granddaughter who is big for a 3 yr old (yes were are trying to potty train) however there is barely a difference if any with size 6. The issue when you stretch the tape part it tears. I ripped through 7 in just one day. I will never purchase these from the Pampers brand again. These are very thin and not as absorbent as other brands.

Source
Trying to find a size 7 diaper is nearly impossible. Had hopes for this one but it’s super thin and definitely doesn’t absorb up to 12 hours. First night of trying it, my little one leaked right through. Going to try goodnites toddler next.

d. Kirkland Signature Supreme Diapers vs Huggies Little Snugglers

Kirkland Signature Supreme DiapersHuggies Little Snugglers

i. Similarities

– Both contain a wetness indicator
– Soft outside feel
– Both are hypoallergenic

ii. Absorbency

Both are actually has a god absorbency, however, some suggests that Huggies diapers held about 32% more than the Kirkland diapers.

iii. Fit

Both Kirkland and Huggies offer excellent leg and waist elastic, allowing them to suit a wide range of newborns.

Kirkland and Huggies, on the other hand, have distinct waistbands. Kirkland uses elastic to keep the diaper in place. Huggies have the same elastic and are shaped like a pocket. So, huggies may capture and prevent backwards diaper blowouts better than Kirkland.

FAQs

a. Diapers Guide 101

b. How to Buy Baby Diapers

Most newborns gain about 3 pounds during the first month and babies born with a higher birth weight tend to skip this diaper size altogether. Therefore, there’s no point stockpiling on size NB.

You can always start small. Try stockpiling no larger than size 1, just in case you don’t like the first brand you try.

Once you get a feel for fit, cost, brand, and size, go ahead and purchase more — up to an entire year’s worth or more of diapers. Keep in mind your own baby’s weight and rate of gain when planning. Never pay full price for diapers unless it’s an emergency (more on saving on diapers below).

Keep in mind that different brands may work better or worse for different babies, so be open to trying a few different diapers before you decide on the right ones for you. Sometimes a diaper that costs a little more is a better fit and works better, making it worth the extra money.

c. How Often Should You Change Your Baby's Diaper?

Change your newborn’s diaper every two to three hours, or as needed, according to experts. Because if the diaper isn’t changed frequently, the baby is at risk of developing skin rashes, infections, and a variety of other health problems.

d. Things to Consider When Picking Your Baby's Diaper

i) Pick Trustable Brands
Make sure you pink a trustable brand.

ii) Diaper Features
Make sure your diapers have features that are suitable for your condition. For example; Good Absorbency, Wetness Indicator Lines, Soft and Breathable, Stretchability and Fit.

iii) Pick the right size

Avoid loading up on one size because your baby will require bigger-sized diapers every few months.

iv) Skin Sensitivity

If your baby has sensitive skin like having rash because of diapers. You must look for hypoallergenic diapers. For example: Huggies Little Snugglers

e. Benefits of Disposable Baby Diapers

Disposable diapers are light, compact, absorbent, leak-proof, and simple to use nowadays. Because of the softness, lightness, and ‘breathability’ of the fabrics used, newborns and toddlers find it comfortable to wear. Keep the skin drier and healthier as a result.

f. When does a child usually stop using diapers?

Between the ages of 18 and 30 months, most children will have completed toilet training and will be ready to stop using diapers, however, this is not the case for all children. In some cases, kids still wear diapers until they are four years old.

g. Diaper Rash

i. What is diaper rash?

Diaper rash is a common type of inflamed skin (dermatitis) that appears on your baby’s bottom as a patchwork of bright red skin. Wet or infrequently changed diapers, skin sensitivity, and chafing are all common causes of diaper rash.

ii. Causes of diaper rash

Diaper rash can be caused by a variety of factors. Diaper rash can occur when a new food is introduced into your child’s diet. It could also be the result of a new laundry detergent or bath product.

Diaper rash can also occur when a child’s diaper is not changed frequently enough or caused by antibiotics your child is taking. Additionally, diapers or wipes that aren’t compatible with your child’s skin may be the reason of their diaper rash.

iii. What to know about diaper rash

Diaper rash is frequently caused by a skin irritation caused by too much moisture in the diaper. The best way to solve this problem is to keep your baby’s bottom dry.

For heavy wetter, do not change diapers too soon because if your baby sitting in a lot of moisture for long periods that can cause rashes.

It is also critical to avoid using any petroleum-based products on your baby’s sensitive skin because they cause too many dry spots, which can worsen the condition or cause more frequent flare-ups. Vaseline, Icy Hot, and Aquafor are examples of such products.

iv. How to treat diaper rash

Know the cause. If the cause is a lack of hygiene, you should change your child’s diaper on a regular basis, making sure to thoroughly clean the baby’s bottom with a wipe or wet washcloth after each change. Then, apply a thin layer of diaper rash ointment to your baby’s bum to keep moisture at bay.

If your baby’s skin is really sensitive, it is best to use a diaper designed for sensitive skin. Change your child’s diaper frequently to avoid diaper rash in the future — moisture trapped on your child’s skin for an extended period of time can be quite harmful.

If it is due to a yeast infection. This will take a week or two of daily application of anti-fungal cream. Always make sure that your baby’s bottom is dry and clean while you’re treating them.

iv. How to choose the best diapers for diaper rash

- Size
Most newborns gain about 3 pounds during the first month and babies born with a higher birth weight tend to skip this diaper size altogether. Therefore, there’s no point stockpiling on size NB.

You can always start small. Try stockpiling no larger than size 1, just in case you don’t like the first brand you try.

Once you get a feel for fit, cost, brand, and size, go ahead and purchase more — up to an entire year’s worth or more of diapers. Keep in mind your own baby’s weight and rate of gain when planning. Never pay full price for diapers unless it’s an emergency

- Price
Expensive diapers are not always suitable for your baby. But do not use cheaper diapers if it is not suitable for your baby’s skin because if your baby’s skin got rashes and infection, you will spend more money for the treatment.

Features
If your baby’s skin is sensitive, make sure that the diapers you chose is hypoallergenic or for sensitive skin.

And if your baby has eczema, make sure the diapers you chose are fragrance-free and do not contain any harsh ingredients because they may aggravate the symptoms.

h. Why are parabens bad in diapers?

There are side effects to parabens, which can enter the body through the skin or ingested by way of food. Since it only takes 26 seconds for a chemical to be absorbed through the skin, and enter the bloodstream, it doesn’t take long for parabens to enter the body. Parabens are absorbed in the digestive system as well.

Parabens are known to cause the following health concerns..

- Endocrine Disruption: Parabens mimic estrogen in the body, potentially causing hormonal imbalance.

- Cancer: Parabens mixed with other estrogenic chemicals can cause malignant melanoma to develop. A study also found a link betweenbreast cancer tumors and parabens putting even young babies at risk from an early age.

- Developmental and Reproductive Toxicity: Parabens tend to cause lower sperm production causing androgen disruption. It also causes hormonal imbalance in females because of its estrogenic effects in the body. Too much estrogen can cause fertility issues later on in life because it disrupts ovulation.

- Genotoxic: Exposure to parabens for pregnant women can affect fetal organs because of genotoxicity where parabens directly affect the DNA and chromosome cells in an unborn fetus.
