Girl dies after allegedly being rejected by hospital

MANILA - A Facebook post of a mother blaming a hospital for the death of her daughter has gone viral online and sparked outrage from social media users.
The woman, Tutz Salarda-Chan, shared in a Facebook post how the staff of Butuan Doctors Hospital allegedly rejected her dying 10-year-old daughter, Jannary ''Yanna'' Chan, last July 15.
Salarda-Chan said her daughter, who has a congenital heart disease, was confined at the San Francisco Doctors Hospital two days before the incident.
But because of an emergency, she decided to transfer her daughter to the Butuan Doctors Hospital, believing it to be more well-equipped.
Salarda-Chan said they traveled for more than an hour to reach the hospital, only to be rejected because she only had around P10,000 on hand. The hospital was allegedly demanding a P30,000 deposit.
''We arrived at Butuan Doctors Hospital around 8pm... rushing to admission desk.. running for my daughter's life... only to be rejected simply because my available cash on hand was only around 8,000- 10,000 and they demanded for 30,000.00 deposit on that very hour!'' she said.
''Nakiusap po kami ng husto na tanggapin ang bata kasi sobrang emergency po at hindi na banking hours to transfer cash kasi gabi na."
She said the woman manning the admission desk demanded the money.
''Malayo sa 30,000 yang hawak mong cash! Wala ditong charity, private hospital kami. Ano ba trabaho mo? Saan ba mangagaling ang pambayad nyo dito?!'' the woman allegedly told her.
Salarda-Chan added that the woman in the front desk told her that her daughter's situation is not an emergency…
ABS-CBN News Caraga called the hospital on Tuesday to get a statement regarding the incident.
However, the admin staff who answered the phone refused to comment and referred the news team instead to the hospital's Patient Affairs Department.
ABS-CBN News later went to the hospital to get the hospital officials' side, but the security guard prevented the team from entering the facility.
Ten-year-old Yanna died on July 16, 2014 due to congestive heart failure.
