Best Hydrocortisone Cream for Face 2022

Hydrocortisone is a steroid (corticosteroid) medicine. This drug is available not only in the form of injections and tablets, but also in the form of creams, lotion and ointment.

Hydrocortisone topical works by calming down your body’s immune response to treat redness, swelling, itching, and discomfort of various skin conditions.

However, do not use a hydrocortisone on your face unless a doctor has told you to or given you a prescription for it because the skin on your face is delicate, so if hydrocortisone damages it, it’s particularly noticeable.

What is hydrocortisone cream used for?

a. Hydrocortisone Cream for Itching Skin

Hydrocortisone cream is used to treat a variety of skin conditions (for instance: insect bites, poison oak/ivy, eczema, dermatitis, allergies, rash, itching of the outer female genitals, anal itching). Hydrocortisone can help to reduce the swelling, itching, and redness that can occur in these types of conditions.

b. Hydrocortisone Cream for Eczema

Hydrocortisone cream is one of the most common treatments to help reduce the itching and swelling of eczema flare-ups. The right strength for you will depend on the severity of your flare-ups and how your skin responds to hydrocortisone.

The medication is available in a variety of strengths ranging from .1% to 2.5%. The only nonprescription form is up to 1% hydrocortisone. Higher strength of hydrocortisone needs a doctor’s prescription.

c. Hydrocortisone Cream for Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a skin condition that causes red, itchy scaly patches, most commonly on the knees, elbows, trunk and scalp. Mild corticosteroids, such as hydrocortisone, may be effective in treating small areas of psoriasis. An over-the-counter corticosteroid can help reduce inflammation, which can slow skin cell production and reduce itching. If a person’s skin is moist, they may prefer to apply a cream.

d. Hydrocortisone for Acne

Topical hydrocortisone is not a common treatment for acne. It doesn’t kill the bacteria that causes acne so it cannot prevent breakouts. However, it could help improve the appearance of inflammatory acne.

A study compared the efficacy of combined acne treatments (benzoyl peroxide coupled with hydrocortisone) and benzoyl peroxide alone. The result showed that combined acne treatment work better because hydrocortisone counteracted the redness and irritation that benzoyl peroxide can cause as it dries out the targeted acne.

e. Hydrocortisone for Hemorrhoids

Hydrocortisone is also used in some medicines to treat haemorrhoids (piles) inside or around your anus. It is used to relieve itching and swelling from hemorrhoids and other rectal problems. It works by activating natural substances in the skin to reduce itching, redness, and swelling.

How long does hydrocortisone cream take to work?

After a few days of using hydrocortisone, your skin should begin to improve.

If you’re using a treatment purchased from a pharmacy or shop, consult your doctor if you still have symptoms after one week or if your skin worsens at any time.

Natureplex 1% Hydrocortisone for Itching Skin Reviews:
I bought this instead of the 3 oz cortisone 10 for itching/cracked skin. First few ingredients from the list are the same, with aloe listed first. I wanted that for my skin. It’s 1% hydrocortisone, same percentage.

I use this on the hives I get for an unknown reason on my face, back, shoulders, and buttocks. I got doctor permission for use on my face… as anyone’s probably should even if only 1%. It’s still a steroid.

It works as well as name brands, and is much cheaper.

Pros:
1. Cheap price.
2. Works in hives and cheap enough to use daily.
3. Doesn’t dry out my skin and I use it on my face twice daily!

Cons:
1. Tiny bottles. Get three at once, so isn’t so bad, but seems wasteful. Wish I could buy a big thing of it!

Vanicream 1% Hydrocortisone Cream for Sensitive Skin Reviews:
My dermatologist recommended this or either get a RX for my rash. The RX was going to be 70 dollars so I went with this cream instead. It was worth it for 10 dollars. Used just a little of it on the rash on my face and within a week the rash was gone. Did not dry out my skin and didn’t effect my sensitive skin

Cortizone Hydrocortisone for Eczema Reviews:
Those who have Eczema know how painful it can be and that all of those “creams” you spend money on just don’t work. I had a severe flare-up this last month around my eyes and face. It’s so upsetting and frustrating, and the normal creams I use just weren’t working, and making it worse. I figured I didn’t have anything to lose by trying another cream. Well let me tell you!!! After just one application – last night – it drastically reduced the red spots and itching. I could not believe it!!! For those of you who know the struggle, it is a huge relief when you find a product that actually works!!
