Although there is no way to guarantee that a review is independent and genuine, we have tried to filter out those junks, salesy and spammy reviews out there. 6 Recommended LASIK Clinics (That Doctors Go To Themselves)

SNEC performs a high load of refractive surgeries in Singapore, and is a referral centre for complicated and difficult LASIK cases from Singapore and the region.

Again highly recommended by our opthalmologist collegues, Dr Jodhbir Mehta is a renowned researcher into corneal disease and refractive surgery, for which he has won many awards. It means that his knowledge and skills are always kept up to date. My opthalmologist friends all know him to be friendly and down to earth, and this translates into the meticulous and caring manner in which he treats all his patients.

6 Side Effects of Lasik Surgery You May Not Know About

Lasik is popular, not just in Singapore but all over the world. In fact, it’s the most frequently performed procedure to correct myopia as well as astigmatism, says Dr Cordelia Chan, consultant eye surgeon at Eye Surgeons @ Novena / Ophthalmic Consultants. But it doesn’t come without risks and side effects – here’s what you need to know.

6 Recommended LASIK Clinics (That Doctors Go To Themselves)

Dr Cordelia Chan came highly recommended by an opthalmologist collegue of mine. She’s the immediate former Head of Refractive Surgery Service at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC).

Over the years, Dr Chan has trained both local and international ophthalmologists in LASIK, ReLEx SMILE and cornea transplantation. Many of these doctors are now consultant Ophthalmologists. Friendly, knowledgeable, and calm were the words used to describe her by my friends – this personality extends to her care of patients as well.

Dr Por Yong Ming is also based at Eye Surgeons Novena. He’s a LASIK subject matter expert on Quora, having answered over 100 LASIK-related questions. I learnt a lot about the procedure from reading his answers. Feel free to browse away.

Even though Atlas Eye offers and performs all 3 types of refractive surgery for myopia, Dr Chan is a big advocate of ReLEx SMILE in particular, a newer technique which requires a much smaller incision than LASIK. It may also cause less problems with eye dryness.

Looking back, if I had chosen to go with ReLEx SMILE instead, I’d certainly have considered Atlas Eye as one of my first choices.

6 Recommended LASIK Clinics (That Doctors Go To Themselves)

Dr Julian Theng was my chosen LASIK doctor. Many of my closest doctor friends also had their LASIK performed by him. You can read about why I chose Dr Theng, as well as my LASIK experience in Singapore at Eagle Eye Centre.

I can also strongly recommend Dr Inez and Dr E-Shawn, both of whom I’ve had the pleasure of following up with while at EEC.

Pretty much the grandfather of LASIK in the medical field, he has performed LASIK in Singapore on countless doctors. My consultant colleague had LASIK performed by Dr Thean when he was just a junior doctor (and recommended him to me), which shows you just how senior Dr Thean is.

My collegue’s own experience with Dr Thean was that he was very reassuring throughout, and he recovered speedily with no post-op halos. He also liked that Dr Thean limited himself to 10 cases a day to avoid tiring himself out.

Dr Heng is known for performing LASIK surgery on most of the doctors and hospital staff at TTSH. When I was rotating through TTSH, all my collegues had their LASIK performed by him.
My colleague (who saw Dr Heng for LASIK) said that he was particularly caring and friendly, and she suffered no side effects such as dry eyes or halo effects post procedure.

LASIK Installment Plan Singapore

Your LASIK procedure can be paid in full or you can choose to go for the installment plans.

For most clinics, they do offer a monthly installment payment option with 0% interest over 6 - 12 months. This tends to be a popular option. A LASIK procedure of about $3,800 can be split into more manageable monthly installments of about $300+.

You can pay for your LASIK procedure via cash, NETS, debit, or credit card. However, it is important to note that NETS only has a $2000 withdrawal limit per day.

LASIK Medisave

Unfortunately, since LASIK and other vision correction treatments are considered elective surgery procedures (non-essential and cosmetic), insurance and Medisave cannot be used to pay for these treatments.
