Best Compounding Pharmacies in Malaysia 2022

The traditional role of compounding pharmacies is to make drugs or supplements prescribed by doctors for specific patients with needs that can't be met by commercially available drugs or supplements.

Following are a few examples of how a compounding pharmacist can customize medications based upon a doctor’s prescription to meet a patient’s needs:
  • Customize strength or dosage.
  • Flavor a medication (to make it more palatable for a child or a pet).
  • Reformulate the drug to exclude an unwanted, nonessential ingredient, such as lactose, gluten, or a dye to which a patient is allergic.
  • Change the form of the medication for patients who, for example, have difficulty swallowing or experience stomach upset when taking oral medication.

Now managing her own enterprise, the also-council member of the Malaysian Community Pharmacy Guild (MCPG) spoke to MIMS Pharmacist about her experiences in the field to date.

2) Accent Wellness Compounding Pharmacy

Dr Rouzier is known for his revolutionary work in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). While he was working in the trauma ward of a hospital years ago, he befriended nurses who were experiencing fatigue because of their 12-hour shifts and poor health, which was a result of hormonal imbalance due to conditions such as premenstrual syndrome, perimenopause and menopause. When one of the nurses found that she felt better after taking natural thyroid hormones, she shared the hormones with her colleagues, who also felt better after taking them. They went to Dr Rouzier and asked him to prescribe the hormones. But, like any other conventional doctor, he refused.

Mahendran (a senior pharmacist who has been compounding under Aurelia Pharma Sdn Bhd since 2011): The resurgence of compounding pharmacies began around the mid-nineties, principally in Europe and the United States, out of a need to fill the gap for individualized or customized medication needs. This was due to dosage adjustments required in some instances, where patients’ needs were either not being met by mass produced drugs, or that there were requirements to do away with some excipients in these drugs that were causing untoward reactions (i.e. adverse events).
