Panbesy vs Duromine: What's the Difference?

Panbesy and Duromine are both prescription medications used to treat obesity. Even though medications contain the same active ingredient, phentermine, and work in slightly different ways.

Similar to Panbesy, Duromine is meant to be used in conjunction with a low-calorie diet and physical activity to aid in weight loss. Additionally, doctors frequently prescribe duromine for usage that lasts no more than 12 weeks.

Both medications should only be used under the close supervision of a doctor. It may cause some side effects such as dry mouth, constipation, and insomnia. It's crucial to remember that not everyone should use these medications, and they shouldn't be the only method of weight loss. Who Is Duromine/Panbesy Typically Prescribed To?

Duromine/Panbesy, like other prescription weight-loss medications, is meant to be used as part of an overall weight-loss plan.. Prescription weight-loss drugs are usually only used by those who: 
  • Have a BMI of 30 or higher (severe obesity); or
  • Have a BMI of 27 or higher (moderate obesity) with the presence of a weight-related disease or complication such as Type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure
It is for those who are obese and have tried unsuccessfully to reduce enough weight with diet and exercise alone. It is not recommended for those who only wish to lose a few pounds.

Can I Take Panbesy as a Certain Alternative to Duromine?

It’s possible to take Panbesy 15 mg capsules instead of Duromine 15 mg capsules and vice versa, but you can’t find Panbesy in its 40 mg strength because it doesn’t exist, unlike Duromine.

So, if you’re prescribed to take the latter one in its maximum dosage (40 mg), you can’t substitute it with Panbesy. Don’t forget that the effectiveness and safety of both meds that treat obesity are proven by many clinical studies and trials.

Which One to Choose, Duromine vs Panbesy?

Both medications are permitted for weight loss in obese individuals with additional risk factors like controlled hypertension. They are two of the most well-known weight-loss medications that are frequently recommended by physicians. Based on the same active ingredient, Panbesy and Duromine are equally effective, causing an average loss of more than 5% body weight in 12 weeks.

Duromine is unquestionably the better option if you're looking for a medication that has a longer-lasting impact on reducing your appetite.


Precaution

You cannot chew or crush Duromine or Panbesy capsules before taking them. They should only be taken once per day (in the morning before food intake). The time between doses should be about 24 hours.

Finally, you should learn more about specific contraindications for taking Panbesy and Duromine.  Their list includes:  glaucoma, anorexia, heart issues, hyperthyroidism, elevated blood pressure, cerebrovascular diseases, and alcohol or drug dependency.

These medications are not recommended for female patients who are pregnant or nursing due to potential health risks and adverse effects.

Keep in mind that both medications have serious contraindications that prevent them from being taken with MAO inhibitors. Only patients who are at least 12 years old and under 65 can be prescribed by doctors.

  • Cut off alcohol. Alcoholic drinks have a lot of calories and can make you gain weight. Reduce your alcohol consumption or cut it off.
  • Cook at home instead of ordering takeout or dining out, which can result in overeating and weight gain. Prepare meals at home with healthy ingredients and portion sizes.
