Medical Specialists in Malaysia

Looking for a Medical Specialist in Malaysia? Researching on the internet to look for a medical specialist is not as simple as one might think, as you are dealing with a major decision that may have serious consequences to you or your loved ones.

You're likely to start your online research by "Googling" phrases like 'best [medical specialty]' and you would probably be overwhelmed by all the choices and the information available on the internet.

To begin with, its wise to have a basic understanding of the medical specialty that you are looking for. You can read more about medical specialties here.

In Malaysia, you can find a medical specialist in the National Specialist Register. The Medical (Amendment 2012) Act 1971 came into force on 1st July 2017 when the Medical Regulations 2017 were adopted. The amended Act requires that for a doctor to practice as a specialist, he must be registered under this Act. For this purpose, the Malaysian Medical Council has established the National Specialist Register, the database of Specialist Medical Practitioners in the country. The register contains information about medical specialists, their disciplines/specialties, qualifications and places of practice. Only medical practitioners on the Specialist Register can practice in their registered disciplines/specialties.

To find a medical specialist in the National Specialist Register database, you can choose the specialty you are looking for under the 'field of practice' (dropdown). You can also find out the doctor’s number of years of practise by looking at her/his qualifications under her/his details. The 'qualifications' will show you the year (year of award) she/he got her/his medical degree and also her/his post-graduate qualification as a medical specialist.
