I love milk. Always have. When the corona virus first struck and we were sheltered at home, one of my first concerns was about food. Home Chef and Hello Fresh addressed the meat, fruit, and vegetable concerns, but what about milk? Normally it has to be refrigerated. But not this kind. I can have a box of 12 sitting on the kitchen floor and only have to refrigerate the one which I have opened. I have gone through many of these since I found them and believe me: they do NOT have to be refrigerated until opened!!

I cannot find whole powdered milk in the grocery store. I hand make bath and body products and wanted whole powdered milk for my milk baths. This product, Judee's, is amazing! I ran out of creamer for my coffee and used it. Then I ran out of milk for my cornbread and used it. Then I decided I wanted an iced coffee, and you guessed it! So, this product has gone from bath soaks to my kitchen needs as well. I didn't expect it to be that good! I've ordered it twice so far!

3. Califia Farms Oat Milk

Oat milk, a good source of vitamins and minerals, is another dairy milk alternative for pregnant women. Unlike almond milk, oat milk has a rich, smooth taste whiteout any weird aftertaste. Plus, the creamy texture of oat milk is great for pairing with your favorite coffee or shakes.

Califia Farms has a popular milk line trusted by many expecting mothers. Made out of whole roll oats, Califia Farms Oat Milk is purely plant-based. So be assured that it has no nuts, dairy, gluten, soy, or GMO products.

Consisting of an unsweetened blend of oat milk, sunflower oil, and sea salt, this popular oat milk barista blend comes in a package of six to last for several days. One main advantage is that it has a longer shelf life than many milk products. Therefore, you’ll not have trouble with storage.

Additionally, you’ll be happy to know that this oat milk doesn’t contain stabilizers as well as gums.

- Dairy Free | Creamer | Vegan | Plant Based | Gluten-Free | Non-GMO | Shelf Stable
- Barista blend oatmilk steams, froths, and foams just like dairy milk and tastes delicious by itself
- Natural starches give this oatmilk a creamy, smooth texture without any gums, stabilizers, or carrageenan
- Barista Blend Oatmilk has a mild and sweet malty taste, yet is lower sugar than sweetened plant milks
- The oats used to make this oatmilk are grown in North America, by farmers Califia Farms know and trust
- This oatmilk is an excellent source of calcium and provides 5 g of Omega-9 fatty acids per serving
- No nuts or gluten
- No carrageenan, BPA, and preservatives

So let me first say: This does not taste like milk. It shouldn't, it's made from OATS. It's actually got a bit of a nutty oatmealy flavor to it, but doesn't seem to be overpowering. It is, however, VERY creamy and behaves in a very milk-like manner when added to coffee. I use a frother and BOY does it hold air! About as good as milk does! The overall result is that this oat creamer tastes good in my coffee, and the texture is the closest to actual cream I've yet to see in a plant-based creamer. The picture is 15 minutes after I frothed it and added coffee, so it REALLY stays foamy!

I had to try stopping the cow's milk products, but I like my homemade milky chai teas and coffees (they are my relaxing treats instead of eating junk and so won't be given up), so broke down and invested in a can of the Meyenberg whole powdered goat milk. I've not had cow's milk or yogurt since the day the can arrived, and I can say that the stomach cramps, gas, bloating, and sudden sprints to the toilet have completely ceased. Completely. I'm kicking myself for not switching sooner. Once I got used to the flavor - it's not bad, just different - everything tasted better and richer with the goat's milk...coffee tastes better, chai tea tastes better, and my stomach FEELS so much better.

- Product of the USA, Packaged in the USA by a family owned and operated company since 1968.

Well I grew up in the islands where “milk powder “ was a staple for milk, making porridge etc. I decided to try this because it is organic with just the one ingredient and I needed it to stabilize my whip cream. I decided to make some to drink and it was so delicious, I have been drinking it every day, I get 12 ounces of water, some Nielsen Massey bourbon vanilla, and some of my homemade chai blend, and using my Powerlix hand whisk it gets sooooo silky smooth with a nice frothy head, great hot or cold. I’m not sure why the complaints about lumps, and a small hand whisk or a battery operated one like the Powerlix works great, the product it has no aftertaste and no funny smell. I just ordered two more bags. Highly recommend!

8. Elmhurst 1925 Unsweetened Oat Milk

- Each product in our unsweetened line of plant milks is made with just 2 or 3 ingredients: nuts & water, or a touch of salt in our oat. Get nutrition and flavor exclusively from the source - whether cashew, walnut, hazelnut, almond, or oat.

- With up to 4x more nuts per serving & fewer, simpler ingredients.
- No fillers, added oils or gums.
- Non-GMO, Vegan & Kosher. Recyclable cartons.
- HYDRORELEASE METHOD: This zero waste process uses just water to separate the nutritional components of the nut, seed or grain.
- DELICIOUS VERSATILITY: Try Elmhurst non-dairy milks & creamers for a variety of uses beyond drinking & coffee. Enjoy the creaminess & nutrition in cereal, hot chocolate, cooking, smoothies, soups & baking.
- Other flavours include Almond, Cashew, Hazelnut and Walnut

We use this for our highly allergic daughter, who reacts to the additives in other milk alternatives. We use the cashew and almond unsweetened milks for her, which each are nut + water and nothing else. We previously used Malk but prefer this brand because it tastes a bit better and, most importantly, lasts longer and is shelf stable when unopened. We cannot find this locally, so we rely on shipments (but some specialty stores do carry it). This is a higher calorie
(higher protein and higher fat) milk alternative, which is perfect for children who need those nutrients. We add calcium powder as it is not fortified. I'm not sure what we'd do without this product! Well done!!

9. Milkadamia Macadamia Milk

Buy on Amazon

- 32 ounce carton
- Unsweetened, 0g sugar with a hint of vanilla
- Keto approved
- Plant based, vegan, dairy free, soy free, gluten free, carrageenan free, non GMO, kosher
- Only 50 calories per serving.
- Perfect for coffee, smoothies, baking or straight up!

This milk is so rich and smooth, with none of that "off" aftertaste that most milk alternatives have. It still isn't dairy -- so don't go in expecting that. But that said, it is the closest I have ever come to finding a true milk replacement. This is actually enjoyable to just drink by the glass or with a meal. In particular, it's not too thin, and it doesn't have an overly distinctive, in-your-face kind of flavor. It's neutral and goes well with almost anything, which is what I always loved about cow's milk. If you've been searching like me and haven't been satisfied yet, I definitely recommend you try this stuff. I was not disappointed, and I doubt you will be either.

FAQ

1. Powdered Milk vs Pasteurized Milk

  • Powdered milk, also called dried milk, is made by evaporating the moisture in the milk to make dried milk powder. It is available as dry whole milk, dry whey, dry skimmed milk, and dry dairy blends.
  • This is less healthy as it is exposed to high heat to drain the moisture in the milk that disrupts the water-soluble vitamin and mineral profile.
  • It also leads to broken proteins and rancid fat cells in it.
  • Similarly, pasteurized milk is also heated on high temperatures to destroy the microbes that contribute to several diseases.
  • The process involves heating the milk to temperatures between 150 to 300 degrees Fahrenheit and then cooling it. Pasteurization kills dangerous germs, but it also destroys beneficial bacteria and other nutritious constituents.
  • Because pasteurization destroys bacteria that cause souring, pasteurized milk has a longer shelf-life than raw milk. Powdered milk's shelf life is even longer than liquid milk and it does not require refrigeration. However, powdered milk does not last forever, as its fats eventually turn rancid. While powdered milk lasts longer in storage, it does require the extra step of adding water before use, and once water is added to powdered milk, the shelf-life is the same as for liquid milk.

2. When to Start Drinking Milk During Pregnancy

It is generally recommended that pregnant women start drinking milk during pregnancy as soon as they find out they are pregnant.

3. Benefits of Drinking Milk During Pregnancy

Milk is an excellent source of calcium, which is essential for the development of the baby's bones and teeth. It is also a good source of protein, which is important for the growth and development of the baby's muscles and organs. Additionally, milk is a good source of other vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, and Phosphorus.
