6 Best Baby Wash for Eczema 2022

What is Eczema in Babies?

Eczema is a skin condition that causes red, itchy, and inflamed skin. It is not contagious.

There are several types of eczema.  The most frequent forms that affect children include atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, dyshidrotic eczema, and seborrheic dermatitis. Eczema, particularly atopic dermatitis, commonly occurs in children between the ages of six months to five years.

What Causes Baby Eczema

The exact cause of eczema is unknown. Researchers do know that eczema is caused by a mix of genetic and environmental causes in babies/children. Skin cells don’t react as they should when something outside the body “turns on” the immune system, triggering flare-ups.

Children from families with a history of atopic dermatitis, asthma, or hay fever (known as the atopic trio) are more likely to get atopic dermatitis.

What Triggers Baby Eczema

– Irritants : fragrances, baby wash, disinfectant may make eczema worse for your baby’s skin.
– Allergens: eczema can be triggered by common allergens such as dust mites, dust, pet dander, pollen, and mold.
– Environment: very hot or very cold temperatures can trigger the symptoms.
– Allergies to certain foods
– Genetics
– Sensitive skin : an abnormal skin barrier lose moisture from their skin and are more susceptible to external irritants, allergic substances, and infections.

Cetaphil Baby Wash and Shampoo Review
I bought this soap at the recommendation of our pediatrician for my 1 year old. Cold, dry weather left her with very itchy and dry skin, and severe eczema in certain spots. This soap cleared up any issues after a couple uses. It’s scent is light but still leaves my baby smelling clean and fresh. And it doesn’t strip her skin of natural oils, but still gets her nice and clean!

Aveeno eczema baby wash Reviews
My son has a mild case of eczema. Most of the time I just use regular lotion and sometimes a hydrocortisone cream, but then I came across this Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream. This cream has been very effective at controlling his eczema. Since I started using this, I haven’t had to use the hydrocortisone cream at all. Plus this is more gentle for his skin. If your child has a severe case of eczema, they might still need prescription medicine to treat it. But for mild cases like what my son has, I recommend trying this cream first. If you’re lucky like I was, this might be the only product you need.

Aquaphor Baby Wash and Shampoo Review
I have tried every fragrance-free and hypoallergenic soap on the market for my little one with eczema. This one is great. You get a large amount and a bottle with a pump which is great when dealing with a slippery two-year-old. No bottles or Lids to mess with.

Also I find that hypoallergenic soaps tend to not be very foamy. That is not the case with this one. It does not have a lot of moisturizing quality to it but it also does not irritate her skin at all. I’m very happy with this product.

FAQs

a. How Often Should I Bathe My Baby?

A bath 2-3 times a week will enough to keep your baby clean. However, if your baby enjoys showers, you can bathe him or her once a day. Bathing your baby more than this can dry up their skin.

Warm water and cotton wool can be used to keep your baby’s genitals clean in between bathing.

A newborn bath should last about 5-10 minutes especially for babies with sensitive or dry skin.

b. Eczema Treatment for Babies

Bathing and moisturizing your baby on a daily basis is essential for treating eczema (atopic dermatitis). Make sure you use a clean baby wash and warm water. After a 15-minute bath, rinse thoroughly, gently pat your infant dry, and while the skin is still moist, use a fragrance-free lotion or ointment such as Petroleum Jelly. Moisturize at least twice a day, preferably when changing diapers. To ensure that a new moisturizer or baby wash is well accepted, test it on a tiny patch of the baby’s skin first.

If the problem persists, or if the rash is purple, crusty, and weepy, or contains blisters, get your kid evaluated. A baby with a fever and rash may also require medical attention. Best to consult your doctor for suggesting a medicated cream or ointment to ease the symptoms.

c. Does Baby Eczema Go Away?

It often does. Most children outgrow it before they start school.. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell if a newborn will outgrow eczema in a few years or not. Children from families with a history of eczema may higher the chances of these condition staying.
