Sacha Inchi Oil Benefits

High in Alpha-linolenic Acid (ALA)

Sacha Inchi oil has a high content of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). ALA is an essential omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids that you must obtain them through diet. Some studies showed that ALA may help lower cholesterol, improve inflammation, and control blood sugar.

Rich in Antioxidant

Antioxidants are compounds that scavenge oxidative stress in biological systems. Oxidative stress (OS) happens when the balance between antioxidants and reactive oxygen species (ROS) are disrupted. OS has been linked to an increased risk of many illnesses such as cancer, diabetes, arthritis, and many more.

Several studies analysed parts of SI (such as the leaves and shells) and reported that these plant structures exhibited antioxidants.

May Have Anticancer Effects

In 2015, a pioneer animal trial in Peru suggested that Sacha Inchi oil (SIO) showed potential anticancer activity. The SIO based diet (1g/kgBW/d for 4 weeks) has successfully reduced tumour mass and proliferation of Walker 256 tumour cells ex vivo, and lowered the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) in the tissue. (Schiessel et al., 2015).

May Improve Cholesterol Levels

According to one small study of 30 people, taking 10-15 mL of sacha inchi seed oil daily for four months resulted in better blood pressure, total cholesterol, LDL (bad) cholesterol, and HDL (good) cholesterol levels compared with a control group who received sunflower oil.

Another small study of 42 adults, consuming a high-fat breakfast with sacha inchi oil prevented increases in cholesterol levels and inflammation, but the outcomes are depending on the metabolic individual status.
