Best Systemic Enzyme Supplements 2023

Systemic enzyme supplements are dietary supplements that are taken orally and often contain a combination of enzymes, including proteases (which break down proteins), lipases (which break down fats), and amylases (which break down carbohydrates). Some formulations may also include other enzymes like bromelain (from pineapple) or papain (from papaya).

These enzymes are typically derived from natural sources such as plants or animals and are believed to have broad effects throughout the body, potentially reducing inflammation, supporting the immune system, and promoting overall well-being, among other potential benefits.

Post Covid 19
study of the efficacy of systemic enzymes and probiotics in patients with a complaint of post-COVID fatigue suggests that a 14 days supplementation of ImmunoSEB (systemic enzymes complex) + ProbioSEB CSC3 (probiotics complex) resolves post-COVID-19 fatigue and can improve patients’ functional status and quality of life. Moreover, the supplements were well tolerated with no adverse events reported.

Physical Performance
Another study of the efficacy of a systemic enzyme therapy (SET) in healthy active adults after exhaustive eccentric exercise suggests that SET administered orally 72 hours before and 72 hours post exhaustive eccentric exercise resulted in higher maximal concentric strength and lower pressure-induced pain (PIP) in subjects who were less experienced in resistance training

Systemic Enzymes vs Digestive Enzymes

Systemic enzymes support and maintain overall health. They help a wide variety of processes in the body and can be thought of like the lubrication that keeps the gears moving easy. Supplements with systemic enzymes may be taken to address specific health issues, but just as often are used to promote general body support. A few things that systemic enzymes help with include the breakdown of excess mucus, fibrin, toxins, allergens, and clotting factors.

Many people take systemic enzymes instead of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) since they also can be helpful in the temporary reduction of swelling. Unlike NSAIDs, systemic enzymes pinpoint only the harmful circulating immune complexes (CICs) without suppressing the CICs that are beneficial.

Digestive enzymes, true to their name, aid the digestive process. Enzymes help the body break down fiber (cellulase), protein (protease), carbohydrates (amylase), and fats (lipase). Digestive enzymes do all their work in the gastrointestinal tract and help combat common issues such as indigestion, bloating, abdominal discomfort, and gas. Many people find that their digestive system is more efficient and self-maintaining when their digestive enzymes are in check.

Benefits of Systemic Enzymes

  • Helpful for fibrosis conditions caused by the hard, sticky protein called fibrin
  • Reduces scar tissue, also made up of fibrin
  • Cleans the blood of cellular waste and toxins to support normal liver function
  • Promotes the immune system response by helping white blood cell efficiency[1, 3]
  • Manages the overgrowth of yeast, reducing stress on the liver

Benefits of Digestive Enzymes

  • Easier breakdown of food for better absorption
  • Healthier relief in pancreatic insufficiency (PI)[4]
  • Better promotion of diet tolerance for vegetarians or vegans
  • Alleviates certain digestive intolerances
  • Supports a healthy balance in the body’s microbiome

Best Systemic Enzyme Supplements

Systemic enzyme supplements generally contain a combination of various enzymes derived from natural sources. The particular enzymes and their sources can change based on the supplement's brand and formulation. However, the following are a few typical enzymes frequently present in systemic enzyme supplements:
  • Proteolytic Enzymes (Proteases): break down proteins into smaller peptides and amino acids. Examples: bromelain, papain, serrapeptase, and nattokinase.
  • Lipases: break down dietary fats (lipids) into fatty acids and glycerol.
  • Amylases: aid in the digestion of carbohydrates by breaking down starches into simpler sugars.
  • Cellulases: break down cellulose, a complex carbohydrate. They may be included in systemic enzyme supplements to help break down plant-based fibers.
  • Other Enzymes: Some systemic enzyme supplements may contain additional enzymes like catalase or superoxide dismutase (SOD), which are involved in various metabolic processes.

The particular enzymes and their concentrations can differ between various systemic enzyme supplements, and the selection is mostly influenced by the supplement's intended use and the expected health effects. Always consult doctor first before taking new supplements, especially if you have any medical conditions or under any medical treatments.

This is a very good product. As one should know, these can help with scar tissue issues, inflammation and pain (and other issues/conditions as well). I'm a very disabled Vietnam Vet who because of multiple injuries could be in constant pain. These absolutely help me with the discomforts associated with my ailments and injuries. One reviewer gave a poor review because of the 'smell' of this product but I personally feel the strength of the 'smell' goes hand in hand with the effectiveness of this product...no smell, no good, strong smell, good!

I highly recommend this product for those who have the above issues. Despite the somewhat pricey cost of this product, for me, it's worth it hands down...and no, I'm not associated with this company nor have been offered any incentives to give a favorable review. This product easily speaks for itself!
Tom.
